“The best thing about my job is I get to create because to not create is not to breathe.”

What are your favorite René Furterer products? Why?

NATURIA dry shampoo - love to use it throughout the hair to give texture and added volume.

FIORAVANTI no rinse detangling spray - for smooth, sleek blowouts. It gives hair that healthy, Hollywood glow without being greasy or weighing the hair down.

Achievements:

One of my biggest achievements with being a freelance Artist is the opening of my Newport Salon, Frank Antonio.

Biography:

Frank Barbosa got his start in the hair industry 17 years ago, while working in the trendy neighborhoods of Bucktown and Lincoln Park in Chicago.  When he wasn’t at the salon, Frank was busy styling wigs and working on hair behind the scenes at the famed productions of Ragtime, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Sound of Music, Mama Mia and The Lion King to name a few.

Frank made a move to the east coast and brought his tress talents to Boston’s Salon Red located on Newbury Street, the city’s trendy locale for shopping, dining and people watching.  His next move brought him to Newport, RI, the popular summer haven, where he opened his own salon, Frank Antonio, on Bellevue Avenue, the premiere shopping area.  At Frank Antonio, Frank continuously wows fashionistas with his styling techniques, catering to everyone from brides, to party goers, to those visiting on a weekend escape.

In addition to his work at Frank Antonio, for the past ten years, Frank has been busy styling stars on movie sets, prepping their hair for the big screen.   He has been the hair department head for recent films such as Bride Wars, Tell-Tale, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and The Last Harbor, to name a few.  He even has a cameo as a stylist to Ann Hathaway in Rachel Getting Married, for which he was the key hair stylist on set, as well as a cameo in Sex and the City 2, for which he was the hair department head and Sarah Jessica Parker’s mane man.

With hair, Frank always loves a challenge and he says it gives him a natural high when he takes on each one.  Although Frank has many loves, his true passion is working behind a salon chair.

My Styling Tip

  • Step 1

Pull all the hair back and up in a high pony tail, smoothing the edges with a boar bristle brush.

  • Step 2

Attach a hair piece to the base of the pony tail and wrap natural hair around the hair piece and secure with bobby pins.

  • Step 3

Finish the look with the René Furterer finishing spray.
