Creighton Bowman
New York, NY
"What I like most about being a hairstylist is the ability to make people feel great about themselves."
"Plus hair is a great medium for an artist like a sculpture. It’s very fluid and the shapes, cuts and styles are limitless."
Biography:
As a 22 year veteran in the hairstyling industry, Creighton is one of the most charismatic and innovative hairstylists working today. His laid back vibe, which comes from his growing up on the beaches of Southern California, combined with his cutting edge style and techniques, keeps Creighton in demand with his clients.
Creighton got his start working at the Europa salon in Newport Beach, California where he got his first taste of working with celebrities. Wanting to further hone his creative skills, he joined the artistic team of Aveda for a year. Eager to break into the New York market, Creighton moved to the city in 1993 and joined the Bumble & Bumble team for three years. During this time, he assisted such legendary hairstylists as Jimmy Paul and Orlando Pita on fashion shows and editorial shoots.
At the tender age of 25, Creighton opened the Vega Salon and Spa in New York City. It was here that his creativity and talent flourished. Creighton and his salon quickly became the buzz and the new hot spot in town. From 1996 – 2001, Creighton was voted “Best Hairstylist” by New York Magazine twice and voted “Best Colorist” by Harper’s Bazaar, Jane and Marie Claire magazines. He was also a Contributing Beauty Expert for Cosmogirl! and Seventeen magazines. Sadly, the salon’s downtown location being so close to the financial district, proved detrimental on September 11, 2001 and Vega Salon and Spa would not reopen its doors.
Always resilient in the face of adversity, Creighton rallied and became a freelance hairstylist quickly acquiring an impressive roster of celebrity clients, which includes Helen Mirren, Jane Krakowski, Heidi Klum, Renee Zellweger, Evan Rachel Wood, Bryce Dallas Howard, Kelly Ripa and Christina Aguilera, to name a few.
Creighton currently resides in New York and loves to travel in his free time.
My Styling Tip
-
Step
Helen Mirren’s Oscar look 2010
-
Step 1
Begin by washing hair with the René Furterer shampoo designed for your hair type. (Bowman used René Furterer OKARA mild silver shampoo on Helen Mirren to cut any gold tones in her hair).
-
Step 2
On towel-dried hair apply VOLUMEA volumizing foam from root to end followed by spritzing with VOLUMEA volumizing conditioning spray for extra texture.
-
Step 3
Next do a soft, round brush blowout with a deep side part. For even more texture add René Furterer NATURIA dry shampoo (Helen Mirren LOVES this product!).
-
Step 4
To finish the look, pull hair up into a messy French twist and fasten it with a fashionable clasp. Spritz finishing spray instant hold over the finished style to keep it in place.
